The researchers of the Miguel Hernández University of Elche, Dr. F. Javier Toledo of the Research Institute Center of Operations Research (CIO), Dr. José M. Blanes of the Industrial Electronics Group (IE-g) and Dr. Vicente Galiano of the Group of Architecture and Computer Technology (GATCOM), have developed an algorithm that allows to compute online the five parameters of the single-diode model through the Web

Thanks to this efficient algorithm which is able to work completely autonomously from the voltage and intensity data of any solar panel, it has been possible to create one of the first Webs in the world with these options. The algorithm executed through the Web has been published in an article of the prestigious international journal IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics (Journal indexed in the JCR with an impact index of 7.168, first of the Ranking in the AUTOMATION & CONTROL SYSTEMS and INSTRUMENTS & INSTRUMENTATION categories).
The single-diode model has been used for more than 40 years for the optimal manufacture of solar panels, among other applications. The algorithm obtained by the UMH researchers, called Two-Step Linear Least-Squares method (TSLLS), provides the best results so far in two cases study commonly used in this research area and, on average, in more than one million curves of a repository of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in the USA. The Website created is available completely free to the scientific community and also to companies interested to obtain the specifications of their solar panels.
