Este tipo de modelizaci\u00f3n se ha utilizado ampliamente para tratar diferentes temas, entre ellos, se ha utilizado en la identificaci\u00f3n Essential Fish Habitats (EFHs) para clasificar y gestionar las \u00e1reas de conservaci\u00f3n, y en la predicci\u00f3n de la respuesta de las especies a las caracter\u00edsticas ambientales. En la modelizaci\u00f3n de la distribuci\u00f3n de especies se han propuesto enfoques y metodolog\u00edas diferentes, como BIOCLIM, redes neuronales y Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines (MARS), entre otros. El principal problema es que la mayor\u00eda de estas aplicaciones son solamente explicativas e ignoran las correlaciones espaciales, lo que puede conducir a resultados enga\u00f1osos. En esta charla, presentaremos c\u00f3mo los modelos jer\u00e1rquicos se pueden utilizar de una forma m\u00e1s adecuada para predecir la distribuci\u00f3n de especies.<br \/>\n<strong>Breve Bio:<\/strong><br \/>\nMaria Grazia Pennino, Biologa Marina, formada como investigadora entre el Instituto Oceanogr\u00e1fico Espa\u00f1ol y la Universitat de Val\u00e8ncia, actualmente se encuentra realizando estancia post-doctoral en la Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal (Brasil); aunque con anterioridad estuvo contratada en el Institut de Recherche pour le Developpement (IRD) en Par\u00eds, Francia. Es autora de distintas publicaciones sobre la distribuci\u00f3n de especies tanto en revistas de Biolog\u00eda Marina como en revistas de Estad\u00edstica.<!--:--><!--:en--><strong>Title<\/strong>: Spatio-temporal modelling applied: Bayesian spatio-temporal approach in the context of species distribution modelling<br \/>\n<strong>Speaker<\/strong>: Maria Grazia Pennino<br \/>\n<strong>Date<\/strong>: 20\/10\/2015 12:45h<br \/>\n<strong>Location<\/strong>: Sala de Seminarios, Edificio Torretamarit<br \/>\n<strong>Abstract<\/strong><br \/>\nModelling patterns of occurrence and abundance of the species using local environmental factors has been a growing problem in Ecology in the last few years. This kind of modelling has been extensively used to address several issues, including identifying Essential Fish Habitats (EFHs) in order to classify and manage conservation areas, and predicting the response of species to environmental features. Different approaches and methodologies have been proposed for modelling the distribution of species. Generalized linear and additive models (GLM and GAM), species envelope models such as BIOCLIM, neural networks and the multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS) are some of them. The main issues are that most of these applications are only explanatory and ignore spatial correlations, leading to misleading results. In this talk, we present how hierarchical models can be used to predict the distribution of species in an accurate way by dealing with the mentioned issues in a more appropriate way.<br \/>\n<strong>Brief Bio:<\/strong><br \/>\nMaria Grazia Pennino is Marine Biologist with a PhD in Statistics from the University of Valencia jointly supervised by professors of the University and researchers from the Spanish Oceanographic Institute. Currently, she is doing a post-doctoral stay at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte in Natal (Brazil). Previously, she worked at the Institut de Recherche pour le Developpement in Paris.
