Probably yes… but it is not known: it constitutes an important open problem. It is not even known whether of not, for instance, numbder 3 appears infinitely many times in the decimal expansion of pi. In this talk we will show how to represent any real number in any base as an “aleatoy path”. This representation allows us to visualize any number and measure the “aleatoriness of tis digits”. Among the many images to be shown, we point out which probably is the larger mathematical image produced until this moment: a path created from a hundred billion digits of pi in base 4. The image has a resolution of 108 gigapixels and is receiving an important attention from the media.

Brief Bio

Francisco Javier Aragón Artacho is graduated in Maths from the University Alicante (Spain) in 2002 and Ph.D. from the University of Murcia (Spain) in2007. He has performed predoctoral visits at the French Antilles and the USA. After working for a business, he got a post position at the University of Alicante supported by the program “Juan de La Cierva”, and since 2011 he is Research Associate in Australia. He is interested in optimization and variational analysis, not forgetting the computational aspects.
