Both algorithms can generally be applied to any<span class=\"gmail_default\">\u00a0<\/span>combinatorial optimization problem. For different purposes, they<span class=\"gmail_default\">\u00a0<\/span>internally solve sub-instances of the tackled problem instances by<span class=\"gmail_default\">\u00a0<\/span>using, for example, MILP solvers or more specialized exact techniques<span class=\"gmail_default\">\u00a0<\/span>that have been developed for the considered optimization problems. The<span class=\"gmail_default\">\u00a0<\/span>first example concerns an extension of the metaheuristic ant colony<span class=\"gmail_default\">\u00a0<\/span>optimization by a negative learning mechanism. The second example is<span class=\"gmail_default\">\u00a0<\/span>about an award-winning algorithm known as construct, merge, solve &amp;<span class=\"gmail_default\">\u00a0<\/span>adapt (CMSA).
