We\u00a0characterize a family of rules compromising between two focal and somewhat\u00a0polar rules: the\u00a0<i>equal-split<\/i>\u00a0rule and\u00a0<i>concede-and-divide<\/i>.\u00a0The characterization only makes use of three basic axioms:\u00a0<i>equal<\/i>\u00a0<i>treatment of equals<\/i>,\u00a0<i>additivity<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>maximum aspirations<\/i>.
